Page 2 i want to thank the members for giving me the opportunity to oversee the operation of the lodge for the year 2008-09. for those of you who don't know me, i was born and raised in the western part of penn. i joined the air force in 1955 and retired from the service in 1976. i joined the fayetteville n.c. ; elks lodge in 1971. after retiring in 1976, i moved to hollywood with my family. i joined the hollywood west elks in 1977, now making me a life member. i was in orlando march 8-10 for the incoming er and secretary seminar. the class covered a large variety of the elks statutes and business practices. you really need a week or more to comprehend all the information given to us. all in all it was a very well conducted seminar and i feel i benefited from it. i looking forward to this being a good year for the lodge and we all have fun doing it. i think we can all agree the economy is not in the best of shape. we have also stopped smoking in the lodge and that has definitely hurt our daily receipts. i spent five years as secretary here and you get a good understanding of what it costs to operate and maintain the building and grounds. we will have to be careful of our spending and watch our budget this year. i open to all ideas for functions and activities to offset these costs. i would like to close with some advice on something that hurts every lodge very much. let's keep the social quarters, social and conduct lodge business in the lodge room. what is that old saying.? if you can't say something nice about someone or something, don't say anything at all. fraternally, jesse clemence er elect name: dob.
