5 card poker rulesNearly 150 years ago, seven young men created sigma chi out of their desire to overcome a fraternal crisis. throughout its storied history, the fraternity continued to overcome various issues and conflicts with that same spirit. as each such quandary presented itself, sigma chi endured and moved swiftly into the future. with a most significant 150th anniversary approaching, the fraternity must remain aware of the new issues that it currently faces and will continue to face in the decades ahead. for sigma chi to exist as a strong and healthy organization, its membership must acknowledge the need for healthy growth, consistent training and constructive accountability. the fraternity will now focus on the high-quality expansion of our fraternity's undergraduate ranks, vowing to recruit only those men who can understand sigma chi and who are motivated by its values. the fraternity will provide all members with a healthy and inspiring pledging experience and will give members the proper tools for continued growth throughout their undergraduate and alumni years. this new focus puts sigma chi in excellent position to combat both the declining membership numbers felt throughout the greek world and the negative stereotypes thrust upon greek organizations by the media and badly informed communities. with the support of, and collaboration with, the sigma chi foundation, the fraternity will align all of its programming upon a single, consistent educational foundation. powerful programs such as horizons and cornerstone already work in concert to continue effective membership development. in the near future, sigma chi will release a new recruitment initiative, pledge program and norman shield. in the years ahead, sigma chi will roll out other creative and visionary programs all built upon the same values and learning objectives. while continuing to expand the order through unified programs, sigma chi will also continue to uphold the standards of performance expected of its chapters and members. without accountability, fraternity programming cannot fulfill its full potential. from this point forward, sigma chi will hold all chapters and members accountable to the voluntary obligations that bind them all, ensuring that the expectations people have of the membership--of the fraternity--will continue to exceed the expectation they have of other men. together, sigma chi's seven founders laid the foundation for an organization that has grown to more than 10, 000 undergraduate members and our nearly 200, 000 alumni. together, focused on the quality development of membership, resources and accountability, the fraternity builds upon that foundation. together, staying true to the founders' vision, sigma chi will win the essentially i laid out a three-part vision to help move this fraternity forward. it was a plan that called for healthy growth, consistent educational programming and constructive accountability. my goal was to keep our sigma chi a strong and relevant organization as it marched through its 150th year and beyond. i brought that healthy growth with the additions of six new chapters at minnesota state-mankato, california-irvine, denison, johns hopkins, embry riddle-prescott and northwestern. i was able to combine that with the expansion of our alumni chapters and associations. we witnessed new consistent educational programming with shared messages at horizons, cornerstone and the balfour leadership training workshop. and we experienced constructive accountability with the overhaul of our discipline procedures, through clarification of the discipline process and the addition of growth-oriented responses to misconduct. i also learned, sadly, that no matter how unilaterally we aligned our educational programs, what we teach does not always register with our members. this required me to hold the chapters at multiple institutions accountable through charter suspension and on line poker or video poker strategy.
